Sleep Number Bed vs Spring Mattresses
The Sleep Number bed has an air chamber to provide support that can be adjusted to your own “sleep comfort number”. Spring mattresses support the body with spring cores often called innersprings. Innersprings are normally made up of steel coil springs. Typically most Americans still use the traditional spring mattresses.
Sleep Number Bed by Select Comfort
The Sleep by Numbers bed is made up of a natural 24-guage rubber heat bonded chamber. The chambers are laminated with 100 percent non stretch cotton for stability and comfort. The Sleep Number bed has been tested and it is found that it can withstand 1000 pounds and is virtually puncture resistant. The firmness control system allows you to select a sleep comfort level from 0 to 100. The bed number will give the perfect sleeping comfort for the individual. Border walls on the adjustable air mattresses help to evenly distribute weight for edge to edge support. The boarder walls are made from of a strong dense block of foam. Also there is a center section of foam between the two air chambers in the dual beds for movement and varied firmness to reduce partner disturbance. The foam comfort pads on the top of the air chamber are zipped inside the mattress cover which provides the cushioning and softness. There are three types of foam comfort padding in the Slect Comfort Sleep Number Beds.
Spring Mattresses
In the construction of a spring mattress the main source of support for the body is the spring and coil unit system. There should be at least 300 coils in a double bed, 375 in a queen bed and 450 in a king size bed. There are several shapes and types of coils that go into a spring made mattress. There are hourglass shaped springs, continuous coil springs, open ended coils and pocket springs. There is a padding layer on the spring mattresses with a of variety fillings and different materials. Today mattresses are much thicker than they used to be. Reason being that spring mattresses are made with many more layers ranging from fiber padding to layers of foam (including viscoelastic or memeory foam and latex). The further your body is away from the spring mechanisms with the padding the more comfortable a mattress will be. You can not adjust the comfort level with a spring mattress as you can with the Sleep by Number system but it all depends on the comfort of an individual.
