Insomnia Information

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder where you may have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Insomnia disorders may be short-term or continual depending on the type of insomnia the insomniac has. The three different types are transient, intermittent and chronic. Insomnia can affect you both mentally and physically.

Signs of Insomnia

There are many recognizable signs of Insomnia such as difficulty falling asleep and frequently waking up during the night. Many people have experienced Transient Insomnia at some point in their life, due to stress or a traumatic event. Transient Insomnia normally lasts for a short period of time and goes away without any need for Insomnia medications or treatment.

When an individual has Intermittent Insomnia they may experience Insomnia that occurs from time to time. Intermittent Insomnia last a few days, goes away and then returns again. In some intermittent cases Insomnia medications are prescribed to help with alertness and sleepiness during the day.

Chronic Insomnia lasts for a month or more and is normally in combination with another disorder or health issue. Someone with Chronic Insomnia may experience daytime sleepiness, headaches and lack of concentration. Chronic Insomnia can be successfully treated with Insomnia medications under close supervision by a medical professional.
