Do Tempurpedic Mattresses Sleep Hot?
Many people believe that Tempurpedic mattresses hold heat or are hot to sleep on and can make you sweat. This is both true and false.
TEMPUR material is “open cell” and polyurethane based. It is NOT latex or conventional foam. The open cell structure of a temprapedic mattress is breathable and promotes air flow. Alternative sleep systems such as air, water and gel mattresses are all “closed” systems that displace pressure instead of absoring and relieving it. On a Tempurpedic mattress, air is pushed out of the TEMPUR cells when pressure is applied. When the pressure is removed, the temperpedic mattress cells automatically “reinflate” to return to their original shape. This breathable structure also promotes the dissipation of heat to keep individuals cool and comfortable.
However, the Tempur-Pedic mattress is designed to conform to the your unique shape. In doing so it fits snuggly to your body. Some (very few) people will react to this by “feeling” hot. This would be true on any sleeping surface, such as a traditional innerspring pillowtop mattress, that conforms to their body. So while the Tempurpedic mattresses do not actually hold heat, it can make a small percentage of people sleep hot or sweat.
